Addiction & Mental Health Treatment Center in Utah
What We Treat
At Corner Canyon Health Centers, our treatment team employs highly skilled clinicians who understand and utilize empirically researched treatment methods. These methods have been validated to show cause and effect of treatment outcomes, whether they be substance or behavioral in nature. We use a holistic framework when treating clients, addressing all aspects of mind, body and spirit, and teach them the value of self-worth, self-esteem, and how to create a meaningful and purposeful life.
If clinically indicated upon admission to our addiction and mental health treatment center, a client will undergo an addiction assessment in addition to the many other assessments we offer. They will then follow our 12 step, Refuge, or Smart Recovery program, choosing elements of each that make sense to them as they build an ongoing relapse prevention plan.
Mental Health concerns we treat include all mood disorders, trauma and PTSD, personality disorders, family and relationship difficulty, and most other diagnoses. We can also work with clients who are on the autism spectrum (high functioning), have chronic pain, diabetes (type 2 or insulin controlled type 1), process addictions like internet addiction and gambling, and other treatment concerns.
Trauma and PTSD may arise after a severely distressing life event or pattern of abuse and/or neglect. There are different levels of trauma and each case must be assessed and treated individually. Our inpatient trauma treatment center was designed to create a comfortable and safe environment for our clients in addition to providing excellent treatment. Our facility is trauma-focused, and PTSD may be treated within 8-14 sessions at Corner Canyon Health Centers, using EMDR, psychodynamic and family therapy, Neuro Enhancement Brain Technology, and the SGB shot (Stellate Ganglion Block) if clinically appropriate.
Depression and anxiety are commonly found with addiction because of the effect that drugs or alcohol have on the brain. In some cases, depression and anxiety remit during treatment because the brain begins to clear out the chemicals interfering with healthy, normal brain activity. If depression and anxiety do not respond, clients may be evaluated by our treatment staff to see if medications might be helpful.
Some clients who come to Corner Canyon are working solely on mental health concerns like PTSD, mood disorders, personality disorders, and other diagnoses. The majority of people with substance abuse also suffer from co-occurring disorders or behavioral issues. For our mental health treatment center to be effective, co-occurring diagnoses must be treated alongside addiction. Mental illness can lead to relapse or new addictions as clients begin to self-medicate to attempt to treat the mental illness if it is not addressed appropriately. Co-occurring diagnoses in clients who abuse substances include depression, anxiety, bi-polar, OCD, ODD, eating disorders, and ADHD, among others.
Drug and alcohol addictions may encompass many different substances. Some of the most common addictions include alcohol, painkillers, opiates, amphetamines, and hallucinogens. Our addiction specialists know that no two addictions are exactly alike, so each treatment plan is uniquely tailored to the client. Our inpatient addiction treatment center offers drug and alcohol treatment services including addiction therapy, recreational activities, family and group therapy, and more.
Corner Canyon Health Centers’s benzodiazepine treatment includes treatment for prescription drug abuse. The treatment process involves integrated therapeutic modalities and cycle work, which helps the user understand their cycle of use and how to break it. This will help the client explore their drug abuse and dependence, patterns of use, reasons for use, triggers, addiction consequences, and what thoughts and activities can replace their unhealthy behaviors.
Use of prescription painkillers may sometimes grow into an opioid addiction. The most common opioid addictions are morphine, codeine, oxycodone, hydrocodone, and heroin. Withdrawal symptoms are often severe because of the brain’s physical and psychological dependence on the drug. A medical detox will be administered, followed by therapy and medications to decrease cravings and relapse.
Corner Canyon Health Centers offers a safe mental health facility and recovery center for all members of the LGBTQI+ community. All of our specialists are highly trained in sensitivity and awareness towards gender and sexuality. Sadly, a large percentage of people who identify as LGBTQI+ face rejection throughout their lives from family, friends, self, and peers, and develop addictions to cope with the resulting feelings. However, Corner Canyon is dedicated to creating a positive and caring environment for all of our clients to aid in the healing process.
