What Is An IOP (Intensive Outpatient Program)?

Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) are structured, intensive outpatient therapy options designed for those who need significant therapeutic support but cannot commit to a full day of treatment. IOP programs usually meet a few days a week, for 3 to 4 hours at a time. They serve as a helpful step down after residential treatment or PHP, supporting individuals as they transition back home. It can also serve as a step up from traditional outpatient therapy for patients who need more weekly structure.

IOP mirrors the excellence found in higher levels of care, offering many of the same services, just with fewer clinical hours. At Corner Canyon, our IOP blends innovative, evidence-based therapies with group sessions, skill-building workshops, functional medicine testing, nutritional psychiatry, and holistic healing activities to address all aspects of your mental health.

Our IOP balances treatment with everyday life to support sustainable healing. We provide unique opportunities for patients to implement skills in real-world settings and smoothly re-integrate back into their local Utah community.

Differences Between IOP and PHP: Which Is Right for You?

IOP is an ideal option for those exiting inpatient care or PHP, offering flexible treatment programming as they transition home. IOP meets 3 days a week for a few hours, while PHP meets daily for most of the day. IOP may be an ideal option for you if:
