Sleep and Mental Health Treatment at Corner Canyon

Rest isn’t a luxury. It’s what makes healing possible.

At Corner Canyon, sleep isn’t an afterthought. It’s one of four pillars in our care model, alongside nutrition, movement, and medicine. We treat these together as part of your whole health, not as separate problems competing for attention.

Common Types of Sleep Disorders

Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea interrupts breathing throughout the night, often without the person waking up enough to notice. Each interruption drops oxygen levels and pulls the body out of deep sleep, which is directly tied to memory, mood regulation, and emotional resilience.

Sleep apnea robs the brain of oxygen and disrupts deep sleep, potentially resulting in structural damage, cognitive decline, and mood disorders. Left untreated, it’s linked to higher rates of depression, anxiety, and irritability, along with increased risk for high blood pressure and heart disease.

Insomnia

Insomnia is chronic difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or both, even when you have the chance or feel exhausted. It’s often driven by a mind that won’t slow down, whether that’s racing thoughts, anxiety, or a nervous system in survival mode.

Left unaddressed, it keeps the body in a constant state of stress. Over time, that lack of restorative sleep also wears down focus, patience, and emotional regulation, making everything else harder to manage.

At-Home Testing for Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea affects an estimated 30 million Americans, and most cases go undiagnosed. Through our partnership with Snap Diagnostics, clients can test for it without leaving home. This saves months compared to the standard process, reducing the time for diagnosis and treatment from 6-12 months down to 2-3 months.

2–3 months
With at-home testing

We offer an initial home sleep study evaluation and medical provider visit to start the process and address other issues related to insomnia. We don’t diagnose or treat narcolepsy, as this requires a licensed sleep specialist.

Clients meet with a medical provider at Corner Canyon Health Centers, who will determine if a home sleep study is appropriate. Complex cardiac or respiratory conditions may require referral to a sleep specialist for an in-lab sleep study rather than a home sleep study.

We then forward the sleep test results to the client’s primary care provider for additional management. Our medical providers (and most primary care and psych providers) are not sleep specialists. If a sleep specialist is required, a referral may be placed by a Corner Canyon medical provider for a future date (the expected wait for a sleep specialist is 6-12 months).

The process is as follows:
01

A sleep test kit ships directly to you

02

You wear it for three consecutive nights, while it measures airflow, oxygen levels, heart rate, breathing effort, snoring, and body position

03

A sleep specialist analyzes the results

04

The results are sent directly to your Corner Canyon care team, who will review them with you and a medical provider to discuss next steps.

From there, treatment is built into your broader plan, which might include using a CPAP mask (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure), medication, lifestyle changes, or addressing the anxiety, weight, or substance use that’s often tangled up with apnea in the first place. The results of the test will be forwarded to the primary care provider for additional management.

A CPAP machine uses mild air pressure to keep your breathing airways open while you sleep. A motor takes in room air, filters it, and pushes it through a tube into a mask. Airway collapse prevention is achieved with the steady air stream that keeps your throat tissues from blocking your airway.

If a CPAP machine is required, the order will need to be sent to a DME (Durable Medical Equipment) provider and approved through insurance, and this will happen through your primary care provider after your stay at Corner Canyon.

Treatment for Insomnia

Sleep apnea is common, but it’s not the only thing keeping our clients up at night or unable to stay awake during the day.

Insomnia Treatment in Utah

Insomnia is often driven by anxiety, trauma, or a mind that won’t power down no matter how exhausted the body is. We address it through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), nervous system regulation, and medication when clinically appropriate.

Our Approach to Sleep Disorders

Every sleep treatment plan at Corner Canyon draws from the same integrated approach we use across all of our mental health programs.

Medical Evaluation & Treatment

Diagnostic testing is done through our partnership with Snap Diagnostics, with results sent directly to your Corner Canyon care medical provider to shape the rest of your treatment plan. For sleep concerns outside of apnea, our on-site medical professionals evaluate and diagnose directly.

Evidence-Based Therapy

CBT-I helps retrain the thought patterns and habits that keep sleep out of reach. When sleep problems are driven by trauma or PTSD, we integrate the same trauma-focused therapies used across our programs, such as EMDR and IFS, to help regulate and relax the nervous system.

Holistic Nutrition

The gut and brain are in constant communication, and poor digestion can interrupt sleep just as easily as a racing mind can. Our registered dietitian works with clients on nutrition that supports both gut health and sleep quality, rather than treating the two as unrelated.

Movement as Medicine

Movement is one of the most direct ways to help regulate the nervous system. Experiential treatments such as equine therapy, yoga, art, and music work with the body to lower stress hormones and shift the nervous system out of fight-or-flight, making real rest more accessible.

Insurance and Getting Started

Our medical team will connect you with Snap to verify your benefits, explain what your plan covers, and give you a clear picture of any costs before you commit to anything. We serve clients throughout Utah and nationwide. We do not cover Medicaid or Medicare.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between sleep apnea and insomnia?

Sleep apnea is a breathing disorder where your airway partially or fully collapses during sleep, disrupting your breathing and your rest without you always realizing it’s happening.

Insomnia is difficulty falling or staying asleep, usually tied to a mind or nervous system that won’t settle.

They can also overlap, which is why we evaluate each client individually rather than assuming one diagnosis explains everything.

Through our partnership with Snap Diagnostics, we ship a test kit directly to you. You wear it overnight in your bed, and it measures airflow, oxygen levels, heart rate, breathing effort, and body position while you sleep.

Yes. Sleep is one of four pillars we treat as connected, not separate, so sleep care is built into your existing plan rather than added on as an afterthought.

Most commercial insurance plans provide some coverage for sleep apnea testing and treatment, though the specifics vary by plan. Before you begin, our team will verify your individual benefits and explain exactly what’s covered.

That history is useful clinical information, not evidence that nothing will work. It tells us what’s already been ruled out and where to actually focus.
